1- What is an ultrasound?

An ultrasound scan uses sound waves or echos to create images of inside your body. It uses sound waves instead of radiation, and as such are often used on pregnant women to check the process of their pregnancy. Although that is their most common use, they are also used to diagnore problems inside the body.

2- Ultrasound Procedure

The ultrasound procedure is quick and simple at Queensway X-Ray and Ultrasound. There is no preparation required for most ultrasounds. Ultrasounds are done by appointment.

3- Ultrasound preparation

Most ultrasounds don't need prior preparation.

Trans-Rectal:

  • Get instructions from Ultrasound Department

Abdomen:

  • Appointment - Nothing to eat after midnight. No Breakfast.

Obstetrical or Pelvis:

  • Drink 5 Large glasses of water (35 - 40 oz.) to be finished one hour before the test. Do not empty your bladder.
No Preparation:

  • Thyroid
  • Testes/Scrotum
  • Breast
  • Echocardiogram
